Precast seating & stairs for Melbourne University’s Arts West department

Completed 2016. In conjunction with Kane Constructions, ARM Architecture and Ace Landscapes, this project included 170 structural lift and stair core panels, 18 detailed precast seating, and 676 GFRC stair treads.

Spaning over 6 floors at a height of over 35 metres Otway Precast were contracted to manufacture 2300 m2 of precast structural stair and lift core panels for the main substructure. We were then engaged to complete the precast seating for the outdoor landscaping works. This entailed 18 custom one-off seats complete with lighting rebates, curved seats and timber tops. The seats incorporated coloured concrete and golden beach aggregate, which became a feature when the seats were given a striped look with exposed aggregate lines.

We were then engaged again to complete the wrap for the stair case which entailed making rubber moulds and producing 676 stair treads to cover the steel stair cases.
