Rocky Point landscaping project using precast concrete, Torquay

Otway Precast worked on a unique landscaping project in conjunction with the Great Ocean Road Committee, for the Rocky Point outlook in Torquay.

The project incorporated 15 uniquely shaped panels with five different colours and sea-shell aggregate to create rock stacks. The precast units were then ground and sandblasted to expose the sea-shell aggregate before being sealed to protect against the harsh environment.

Once erected onsite, the rock stacks incorporated a recessed text paragraph to fit in the text-etched boardwalk.

After being approached by the Great Ocean Road Committee, Otway Precast was asked to produce a rock-based seating element that was indicative of the area. Working closely with the design team, we were able to create the shapes and overall aesthetic seen below.

Due to the harsh environment being on the edge of the Southern Ocean, deterioration had to be taken into account when producing the precast concrete. Using a quality sealer we were able to maintain a raw concrete look while protecting from the elements.

If you want to see the stunning precast concrete stacks in person, you can find them at the end of the Rocky Point walking trail, overlooking the mouth of the river.
